Article 638 of Civil Code

1 - If the sharecropping arrangement ends before expiry of its term, the landowner must reimburse the sharecropper or his heirs for what the sharecropper spent on the crop that has not matured, together with compensation equivalent to the customary remuneration for his work, provided that the total does not exceed the value of the sharecropper's share of the harvest. 2 - Nevertheless, if the sharecropping arrangement ends upon the sharecropper's death, the heirs shall have the option of receiving the foregoing or replacing their predecessor in the work until the crop matures, so long as they can perform it satisfactorily.
