Article 83 of Jaafari Personal Status Law

The following are required in respect of the breastfed child: 1 - That the child's breastfeeding take place before the end of the weaning period, that is, within the two years. If the child is breastfed after the two years, it does not establish the prohibition of marriage, even if the child has not been weaned; if the child is breastfed before the end of the two years, it establishes the prohibition of marriage, even if the child has been weaned. 2 - That the breastfeeding reach the extent of producing flesh and strengthening bone. Where there is doubt as to whether this has occurred, breastfeeding for a day and a night, or fifteen complete consecutive feeds without breastfeeding by another woman intervening between them, suffices.
