Article 1 of Decree-Law No. 10 of 2020 concerning Notarisation

In applying the provisions of this Law, the following words shall have the meaning indicated opposite each: Minister: The Minister of Justice. Department: The Notarization Department. Notary: The person entrusted with carrying out notarization work and related work, whether a government or private notary. Government Notary: The notary in the Department entrusted with carrying out the work specified in this Law. Private Notary: A person licensed to carry out the work specified in this Law. Register: That prepared—in paper or electronic form—for recording the transactions conducted by the notary pursuant to this Law. Interested Party: Anyone who requests notarization of an instrument or authentication of their signature thereon, or requests certification of the date of an instrument or any transaction conducted by the notary under this Law. Temporary Electronic System: A computer program or electronic system prepared to act or respond to an act independently, wholly or partially, without the intervention or supervision of any natural person at the time the act or response thereto occurs.
