Customs inspectors upon whom the laws have conferred the status of judicial police officers, while performing their duties, have the right to search places, persons, goods, and means of transport within the customs zone if they have grounds for suspicion concerning goods and baggage and suspicion of smuggling concerning persons present within those zones. The existence of a situation indicating suspicion of customs smuggling within the limits defined by law is sufficient to establish the right to investigate it. Finding, during the search, evidence revealing a non-customs offence punishable under the general law. It may validly be relied upon before the courts in respect of that offence. The reason and basis thereof. An example.
