Extinction of an obligation owing to impossibility of its performance. Condition of impossibility: it must be absolute for everyone, not for some to the exclusion of others. Absence thereof. Its effect. The obligation is not extinguished even if it is onerous for the debtor. - An obligation whose subject matter is payment of a sum of money. Absolute impossibility does not apply to it. - Force majeure by which an obligation is extinguished. It must render performance of the obligation absolutely impossible. Temporary impossibility does not extinguish the obligation. Its effect is confined to suspending it until it becomes capable of performance.
