English translation of the principle

The carrier's obligation is an obligation to achieve a result by transporting the thing and delivering it intact to its owner. Loss of the thing before actual delivery entails its liability. It may avert liability by proving that the loss or damage did not arise from its act or the act of its workers or employees, but from force majeure, an inherent defect in the goods, or the consignee's fault. - The port taking the carrier's place in performing its obligation to deliver the goods to the consignee. Representation originating in law. The carrier is not discharged except by delivery of the goods to the consignee.
