Article 1035 of Civil Code

The pledgor warrants the soundness and effectiveness of the pledge and may not perform any act that diminishes the value of the Home Page 1079 Index of the Law Civil Code Decree-Law No. 67 of 1980 AD Promulgating the Civil Code pledged thing or prevents the creditor from exercising his rights derived from the contract. In urgent cases, the pledgee may, at the pledgor's expense, take all measures necessary to preserve the pledged thing.
