Article 12 of Legal Profession Law

The practice of law may not be combined with the following: 1 - Presidency of the National Assembly. 2 - Presidency of the Municipal Council. - Employment with any government entity, association, body, bank, company or individual. Lawyers who are members of the National Assembly or Municipal Council are prohibited from accepting representation in litigation or conducting pleadings against the Government, public bodies, departments and institutions, or companies whose entire capital is owned by the State or in whose capital it holds a share of not less than 25%, directly or indirectly. A government employee who has left service and practised law may not plead against the entity for which he worked during the 3 years following his departure from service. Exempted from the provision of item (4) are practising lawyers who work in the offices of practising lawyers (1) Added pursuant to Law No. 62 of 1996 Law Index 744 Home Page Legal Profession Law Law No. 42 of 1964 concerning the Regulation of the Legal Profession and Kuwaiti members of the teaching staff at the Faculty of Law, Kuwait University, whose rank is not lower than assistant professor, provided that special permission is obtained from the competent authority at the University and their names are entered in the roll of practising lawyers in accordance with the provisions of this Law.
