Article 588 of Civil Code

1 - As security for every right accruing to him under the lease contract, the lessor may retain all attachable movables present in the leased property, so long as they are encumbered by the lessor's privilege, even if they are not owned by the lessee. The lessor has the right to object to their removal. If they are removed despite his objection or without his knowledge, he shall have the right to recover them from their possessor, even if the latter is in good faith, without prejudice to any rights that possessor may have. 2 - The lessor may not exercise his right of retention or recovery if removal of these things was required by the lessee's trade or by the ordinary affairs of life, or if the movables left in the leased property or recovered fully suffice to secure the rent.
