Article 188 of Code of Criminal Procedure and Trials

The time limit for opposition is one week and begins, in misdemeanours, from the date of service of the judgment rendered in absentia on the convicted person, and, in felonies, from the date of arrest of the convicted person if the judgment has not been served on him personally. If this time limit expires without the convicted person lodging an opposition, the judgment may not be challenged except by appeal, if it is appealable. The judgment rendered in absentia shall be served on the convicted person personally, or by electronic mail or by any other modern means of communication capable of being preserved and retrieved, in accordance with the conditions and requirements stipulated in the aforementioned Civil and Commercial Procedure Law. If service of the judgment on the convicted person is not possible, the notice shall be delivered at his place of residence to any of his relatives or relatives by marriage residing with him who are present, or to any of his attendants who are present. If none of them is present, or if whoever is present refuses to receive the notice, the notice shall be published in the Official Gazette and posted in prominent places in the locality in which he is, in a prominent place at his residence or workplace, and in any other place where its publication is deemed appropriate.
