Article 40 of Code of Criminal Procedure and Trials

The police shall be competent to receive reports concerning all offences and shall examine them, collect information relating to them, and record it in the inquiry report. A summary of the report and its date shall immediately be entered in a register maintained for that purpose at the police station. If a police officer is informed of or learns of the commission of an offence, he shall immediately notify the Public Prosecution, in felonies, and police investigators, in misdemeanours, of the occurrence of the offence, and shall proceed to the place where the incident occurred to preserve it, seize everything connected with the offence and useful to the investigation, and undertake the procedures required by the circumstances. He shall record all these procedures in the inquiry report.
