Article 157 of Personal Status Law

A- A woman whose husband dies during a valid marriage shall observe a waiting period of four months and ten days from his death, if she is not pregnant. B- The waiting period of a pregnant woman ends upon delivery of her pregnancy, or its miscarriage with some of its organs discernible. C- The waiting period of a non-pregnant woman, other than in the case of death: 1- Three complete menstrual periods within a period of not less than sixty days for women who menstruate. 2- Ninety days for a woman who has never menstruated, or who has reached menopause and whose menstruation has ceased. If she menstruates before its expiry, the waiting period shall begin anew with three menstrual periods. 3- Ninety days for a woman with prolonged bleeding, if not, if she does not have a known menstrual pattern. If she has a pattern that she remembers, she shall follow it in calculating the waiting period. 4- The shorter of the two periods of three menstrual periods or one year for a woman whose menstruation has ceased before menopause. E- The longer of the divorce waiting period or the death waiting period for a woman irrevocably divorced by a divorce intended to evade inheritance, if the man who divorced her dies before her waiting period is complete.
