Article 1 of National Assembly Elections Law

In applying the provisions of this Law, the following words and expressions shall have the meanings indicated opposite each: General Elections Commission: The authority concerned with supervising and organizing the electoral process. Chairman: The Chairman of the General Elections Commission. Voter: A citizen who has the right to choose a candidate and meets the conditions required to exercise his electoral rights. Candidate: A citizen participating in the electoral process after registering his application expressing his wish to do so, having satisfied all conditions required for candidacy. Electoral domicile: The place where the voter actually and permanently resides, as recorded on the civil identity card. Electoral rolls: Lists containing the names of those entitled to vote, their electoral registration numbers, electoral domiciles and electoral constituencies, and the names of those suspended from voting. These lists shall constitute conclusive evidence on polling day. Election committees: The main, original and subsidiary committees composed of members of the judiciary and others. Polling centres: Places designated for voters to cast their votes, which the General Elections Commission determines. Primary elections: Anyone who organizes, participates in organizing or calls for primary elections, which are held unofficially before the scheduled election date to select one or more persons from among those belonging to a group or sect.
