Article 51 of Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Law

English translation

Telephone calls and private communications are confidential matters whose privacy may not be violated, and they may not be subjected to surveillance by any means except after obtaining permission from the competent judicial authority. The Public Prosecution may, whenever the interests of investigating a crime so require, issue an order to trace the source of waves. It may seek the assistance of specialists from the Authority to carry out that work, provided that this is under its supervision. The investigator may assign police officers to listen to that source and record it to convey its contents to him. The order must contain a clear specification of the wave whose source is to be traced, and that order shall not continue for a period exceeding what the necessity of the investigation requires.
