English translation of the principle

The owner of a movable, if it is lost or stolen, may recover it from whoever possesses it under a valid title and in good faith within three years from the date of loss. The general rule is its recovery without paying anything, and the possessor may bring a warranty action against the person from whom he received the movable if his title permits this. The exception. Where the possessor purchased it at a market or public auction or from someone who trades in similar goods, he may demand that the owner pay the price for which he purchased it.
