Article 56 of Civil Code

1 - In contracting through representation, the person of the representative, rather than that of the principal, shall be considered in determining defects of consent or the effect of knowledge or ignorance of certain particular circumstances. - 2 Nevertheless, if the representation arises by agreement and the representative acts in accordance with specific instructions received from the principal, the latter may not, within the scope of the implementation of his instructions, invoke his representative's ignorance of matters which he himself knew or was presumed to know. Account must then be taken of any defects affecting the principal's consent.
