Article 818 of Civil Code

1 - Where several persons hold a right in rem over a thing, without each person's share being separately divided, they are co-owners in common. Their shares shall be equal unless otherwise established. 2 - The following provisions apply to ownership in common, as well as to other rights in rem held in common, unless inconsistent with the nature of the right or with what the law prescribes.
