Article 18 of Social Insurance Law

If the insured person's service ends because he has contracted an illness that has exhausted his sick leave, and he is not entitled to a retirement pension under the provisions of the preceding Article and has not chosen payment of the retirement gratuity, he shall be entitled to a temporary pension calculated on the basis of the period of participation in this insurance or fifteen years, whichever is greater, until he recovers. The pension recipient shall be examined at the times and in accordance with the system established by the Institution. Payment of the pension shall be suspended if its recipient does not present himself for examination, and payment of the entitlement for the suspension period shall follow the outcome of that examination. If, during his illness, the pension recipient completes the period necessary for entitlement to a retirement pension under the provisions of items (5) or (6) of the preceding Article, or dies during his illness, the pension shall be settled under the provisions of the preceding Article from the date of completion of the period or occurrence of death. No contributions shall be paid for the period of illness included in calculating the period of participation in this insurance and provided for in the preceding paragraph.
