Article 20 of Law on Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances

A physician licensed to practice medicine in the country may prescribe narcotic or psychotropic substances or preparations to patients for a medical need, in accordance with approved medical standards and under a special medical prescription. The Minister shall issue a decision specifying the particulars and conditions required in the medical prescription. The quantity of treatment prescribed to the patient may not exceed two weeks at a time for narcotic preparations listed in Schedules Nos. (1, 2, (3) of the first group annexed to this Decree-Law, and two months at a time for psychotropic preparations listed in Schedules Nos. (2, 3, 4) of the second group annexed to this Decree-Law. The two periods may be extended for specified medicines by a decision of the Minister. A physician is prohibited from writing a prescription for himself or any of his relatives up to the second degree for any quantity of narcotic or psychotropic substances or preparations.
