Article 17 of Decree-Law No. 13 of 2026 concerning Safeguarding and Protecting the Supreme Interests of Military Entities

The force or unit assigned to guard the State's borders shall take the procedures and measures necessary to secure and protect the State's land and maritime borders and shall, in particular, have the following functions: 1 - Guarding land and maritime borders, roads, routes, passages and entry points. 2 - Combating smuggling and infiltration in the border area. 3 - Conducting patrols, establishing installations and providing early notification of any suspicious activity along the border line. 4 - Gathering information and preliminary evidence concerning incidents occurring in border areas. 5 - Providing assistance in search and rescue operations along the border line. 6 - Preserving the environment, natural resources and reserves in the border area in accordance with the laws in force in this regard. 7. Preventing violations of the State's laws and its military, security, customs or health regulations. 8 - Monitoring maritime navigation in cooperation with the entities concerned. 9 - Any other tasks and functions assigned to it.
