Article 494 of Commercial Code

1 - Acceptance by intervention shall occur in all cases in which the holder of a bill of exchange capable of acceptance has a right of recourse before its maturity. 2 - If a person is designated in the bill of exchange to accept it or pay its value in case of need at its place of payment, the holder may not have recourse before its maturity against the person who made that designation or against subsequent signatories unless he presents the bill of exchange to the person designated to accept or pay it in case of need, that person refuses to accept it, and the holder establishes that refusal by protest. - In other cases, the holder may reject acceptance by intervention. If he accepts it, he shall lose his rights of recourse before maturity against the person for whose benefit the intervention occurred and against subsequent signatories.
