Article 509 of Commercial Code

1 - The maker of a promissory note shall be liable in the same manner as the acceptor of a bill of exchange. 2 - A promissory note payable at a specified period after sight must be presented to the maker within the period prescribed in Article 442 for an annotation indicating that the note has been seen. This annotation must be dated and signed by the maker. 3 - The period after sight shall begin from the date of the aforementioned annotation. 4 - If the maker refuses to make the annotation, his refusal must be established by protest, and the date of the protest shall be considered the commencement of the period after sight.
