Article 17 of Law on the Practice of Medicine and Allied Health Professions

A physician is prohibited from performing an abortion on any pregnant woman except in the following exceptional circumstances: 1 - If the abortion is necessary to save the mother's life - If continuation of the pregnancy would seriously harm the mother's health - If it is scientifically established that the fetus will be born severely afflicted with a bodily deformity or incurable mental impairment, after obtaining prior written and express consent Law Index 760 Home Page Law on the Practice of Medicine and Allied Professions Law No. 70 of 2020 concerning the Practice of Medicine and Allied Professions, Patients' Rights and Health Facilities from the husband and wife to the abortion. An abortion under this Article shall be performed in a government or private hospital, and shall be based on written approval signed unanimously by a medical committee formed by the hospital director from three physicians specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, whose chair shall be at consultant level. The committee may seek the assistance of such physicians in other specialties as it needs. The Minister shall issue a decision concerning the conditions to be met by members of the aforementioned medical committee, the procedures to be taken, and the necessary and approved medical standards for performing this operation, in addition to the controls regulating cases of urgent necessity
