Article 32 of Legal Profession Law

The lawyer shall receive fees in accordance with the contract drawn up between him and his client. If other work branches out from the action that is the subject of the agreement, the lawyer may claim his fees for it. Where there is no written agreement on fees, or the agreement is void, their assessment shall be referred to the civil circuit of the Court of Appeal for determination, after seeking guidance from the opinion of the Lawyers Association, by a final decision not subject to challenge. The lawyer may not purchase all or part of the disputed rights in respect of which he undertakes the defence, nor may his fees consist of a share in kind of those rights. The lawyer's fees shall have a first-ranking privilege over the assets and rights he has recovered for his client and release guarantees, and a second-ranking privilege over his client's assets in other cases. In all cases, the relationship between the client and his lawyer shall not end, and the fees shall not become due in full, until the date a final judgment on the merits is issued, the matter assigned to him is completed, or it ends by settlement, unless the agreement provides otherwise.
