Article 34 of Code of Civil Procedure

The Court of First Instance shall have jurisdiction to adjudicate at first instance civil and commercial actions that do not fall within the jurisdiction of the Summary Court, unless the law provides otherwise. Its judgment shall be final if the value of the action does not exceed five thousand dinars. It shall also have jurisdiction to adjudicate at first instance all disputes relating to personal status, including marriage, divorce, filiation, maintenance prescribed by Sharia, guardianship over property and the person, testamentary guardianship, curatorship, interdiction, absence, declaration of a missing person as dead, inheritance, wills, endowments and other personal status matters, unless the law provides otherwise. Its judgment shall be final in inheritance, wills, endowments and dowry matters if the value of the action does not exceed five thousand dinars. It shall also have jurisdiction to adjudicate appeals brought before it against judgments issued at first instance by the Summary Court or the judge of urgent matters.
