Article 16 of Child Rights Law

English translation

Anyone who finds a newborn child is to hand the child over—in the condition in which the child was found—to the police station, which must in turn draw up a report recording the condition, including the circumstances and conditions in which the newborn was found and the place and date of discovery. The competent health entity shall then be notified to estimate the child's age and coordinate with the competent entity at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour in giving the child a three-part name and entering the child's particulars in the births book. The health entity shall send a copy of the papers to the Ministry of Health within seven days from the date of entry in the births book. The Ministry of Health shall register the child in the births register, and the child shall be handed over to one of the institutions designated to receive children of unknown parentage.
