Article 66 of Law on the Practice of Medicine and Allied Health Professions

In the event of the death of a person in a health facility, or if the person arrives there deceased, the physician, all members of the medical team directly attending the case, and those managing the health facility have a duty to ascertain the death and its causes. After the death has been confirmed, the deceased’s family and relatives shall be notified of it in an appropriate and suitable manner. If there are signs or circumstances giving rise to suspicion that the death is criminal in nature, the authority competent to investigate must be notified, with due regard to compliance with the procedures set out and the conditions prescribed in Law No. (36) of 1969 concerning the regulation of the registration of births and deaths. Death shall be diagnosed in accordance with the criteria and after following the medical procedures to be specified by a decision of the Undersecretary.
