Article 8 of Decree-Law No. 53 of 2026 Promulgating the Law Regulating Procedures for Parentage and Name Correction Actions

An action concerning parentage shall not be admitted unless preceded by an investigation conducted by the Committee into an application to establish or deny direct parentage submitted to it by the persons concerned. The Committee shall refer it to the competent court, accompanied by a detailed report of its conclusions, within six months from the date the application is submitted to it, and three months if the application is for denial of parentage by li‘an. If this period expires without a determination of the application, the person concerned may resort to the courts.
